Alia is one of our artisan partners in Jordan who is replacing poverty and oppression with opportunity and hope.
Many of the Jordanian women working as artisans for Trades of Hope have been divorced, orphaned, widowed or married to a man with many wives. Viewed as second-class citizens in their culture, it has been a struggle to provide for their families’ needs. By creating beautiful jewelry from recycled products, these women are generating an income for their families as they find their own worth.
Using items that would normally be discarded or seen as having no value, they see their potential and change them into something beautiful. It is a striking analogy of the transformed lives women like Alia are now leading through the opportunity they have been given.
These environmentally-conscious artisans craft our Lava Essence Bracelet, which diffuses essential oils, and our Sea Glass Necklace. Both the bracelet and necklace feature unique accents made from upcycled glass bottles. The glass is tumbled smooth with water and sand from the Red Sea, emerging more beautiful than its prior state. ❤️️
